La Ribera, Baja California Sur.- The natural wealth of Baja California Sur has provided an extraordinary event. Staff from the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) located and secured a nest of a Leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) on a beach in La Ribera, within the zone of influence of the Cabo Pulmo National Park.

This finding is of vital importance, as the Leatherback is the largest sea turtle species on the planet and is listed as "In Danger of Extinction" according to the
Official Mexican Standard NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010.
The event is considered exceptional by specialists, given that this is not a common nesting area for this particular species.
Following the discovery, CONANP technicians immediately activated protection protocols. During the nest inspection, a total of 65 eggs were counted, which are now being monitored and protected to ensure their viability and eventual hatching.
This event underscores the importance of Los Cabos not only as a world-class tourist destination but as a vital sanctuary for marine biodiversity. The waters and coasts of Baja California Sur once again prove to be a crucial refuge for species of global importance.
The swift and effective action by federal authorities reflects the success of the national conservation strategies implemented in the Natural Protected Areas. This effort ensures that the state's natural capital is preserved, allowing these impressive spectacles of nature to continue occurring on our shores.
