La Paz, Baja California Sur.- Baseball, considered by many to be the "king of sports" in the region, could soon have its own official celebration. An initiative has been presented in the Congress of Baja California Sur to establish the "State Day of Sudcalifornian Baseball."

The proposal was introduced by legislator Luis Armando Díaz, who seeks formal recognition of the deep cultural and social footprint this sport has left on the state over generations.
During his statement of reasons, the legislator emphasized that baseball is more than just a pastime in the state; it is a "cultural seal" and an integral part of Baja California Sur's sporting heritage.
The initiative highlights the peninsula's long tradition as a cradle of talent. The state has produced numerous players who have achieved success in professional leagues, both nationally (Mexican Baseball League and Mexican Pacific League) and internationally, even reaching Major League Baseball (MLB).
The objective of establishing this date is not just symbolic. It aims to honor the memory and careers of legendary local baseball figures, as well as to recognize the efforts of current players, coaches, and promoters.
Furthermore, the creation of this state day would serve as an incentive to promote the practice of baseball among new generations, strengthening the social fabric and Sudcalifornian identity.
The proposal will now be sent to the corresponding commissions of the Congress for analysis and ruling. If approved, Baja California Sur would join other states that formally recognize their emblematic sports.
