SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO, BCS. – In response to a critical need for health infrastructure in one of the country's fastest-growing areas, the federal and state governments have confirmed the construction of a new IMSS-Bienestar hospital in San José del Cabo. The announcement was made by Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, who specified that the project is a priority of his administration in coordination with the Federation to address the backlog in medical services.

The new hospital, which will be built on land donated by the National Fund for Tourism Promotion (FONATUR), will have an initial capacity of 90 beds, with potential for expansion. This project is essential to relieve the current General Hospital, which has been overwhelmed by the rapid demographic growth of Los Cabos, driven largely by the tourism industry and the arrival of workers from all over the country.

During his press conference, Governor Castro Cosío detailed that the project is part of a comprehensive improvement plan for the region. "Health is a right, not a privilege. This work is an act of justice for the working people of Los Cabos who have demanded dignified medical service for years. It is a direct instruction from the President of the Republic to serve the areas that contribute most to national development," he emphasized, framing the project within the vision of the Fourth Transformation.

In addition to serving the population without social security, the hospital will also play a crucial role in strengthening tourism infrastructure, offering greater certainty and security to national and international visitors. The investment, although not fully detailed, will be federal, and its construction is projected to begin in the first half of 2026, which will also trigger the creation of direct and indirect jobs in the construction sector.

This hospital joins other strategic investments in the state, such as improvements to the electrical grid, seeking to create a more balanced development with social well-being. Local authorities and the business sector have celebrated the announcement, considering it an indispensable step to guarantee sustainable growth and quality of life for the inhabitants of the southern peninsula.
