La Paz, BCS – June 12, 2025 – According to the most recent State Competitiveness Index 2025 (ICE) from the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), Baja California Sur has established itself as the best state to work in Mexico , surpassing even Mexico City, and reaching second place overall in the national competitiveness ranking.
Why does Baja California Sur stand out?
The BCS "Labor Market" subindex climbed three places in this category, displacing Mexico City and ranking first in working conditions. This section evaluates the efficiency of human capital use, including informality, wages, education, gender, and formal employment.
Competitive Salaries The average monthly income in BCS is 13,824 pesos , higher than the national average (10,963 pesos). In key sectors, such as engineering and architecture, salaries can exceed 34,000 pesos , while in the construction sector, they range between 17,000 and 30,000 pesos .
Low informal employment Only about 30% of the workforce is in the informal sector, compared to the national average of 51%, making formal employment predominant in the state.
Low wage inequality and high female participation. The IMCO highlights that Baja California Sur has one of the lowest wage inequalities, along with strong economic participation of women.
