Many critics are now urging voting as the only way to influence this momentous judicial reform.

Mexico City. Less than a week before the historic judicial elections scheduled for June 1, Mexico is preparing to elect 881 federal and 1,800 state officials that will profoundly transform the country's judicial system.

However, citizen participation has become the focus of the debate.

Although 72% consider the elections necessary, only 34% say they will definitely vote, while there is still a lack of knowledge about the election date and the candidates.

President Claudia Sheinbaum and Morena are betting on greater participation as the key to legitimizing the reform, while the opposition is hesitating between abstaining or going to the polls.

Factors that hinder voting include an INE budget ten times smaller than in previous elections, ballot complexity, and the exclusion of key voters such as people in pretrial detention and Mexicans abroad.

The lack of visible campaigns and the ban on advertising for candidates complicate the process.

Experts warn that low turnout could result in an illegitimate judiciary dominated by Morena .
