UABCS has demonstrated a comprehensive approach to a complex and sensitive issue such as addiction, promoting not only prevention but also emotional health .

Context and scope of the event

  • Last Saturday, June 14 , the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS) joined the National Day for Peace and Against Addictions , promoted by the Ministry of Public Education and the Presidency of the Republic.

  • The day included five axes of action: pedagogical, physical-sports, artistic, cultural and recreational , achieving active participation of students, teachers and the public.


Key activities carried out

  1. Poster Exhibition : Created by students to raise awareness about the risks of substance use and promote a culture of peace

  2. Reading Marathon : Under the slogan "UABCS reads for Peace and against Addictions," the university community was invited to read texts on emotional health and peaceful coexistence.

  3. Academic Forums : Included topics on the environment, sustainability, and a lab on the physiological effects of drugs.

  4. Cultural and sports activities : Writing theater scripts, volleyball, basketball, and soccer tournaments, promoting healthy interaction and physical well-being


Objectives and expected results

  • Youth awareness : UABCS sought to directly inform youth about the risks of drug use, promoting healthy lifestyles.

  • Strengthening values : The combination of artistic, sporting, and educational activities fostered the construction of a culture of peace and cohesion on campus.

  • Emotional Health : Emotional health representatives actively participated, highlighting the importance of linking mental well-being with risk prevention.


Relevance for the inhabitants of BCS

  • Early prevention : Initiatives like this reduce the risk of addictive behavior among young people, with a protective effect on the Southern California community.

  • Local peacebuilding : The interaction of students, teachers, and authorities strengthens the social fabric, which is beneficial in a state with coastal and tourist dynamics.

  • Replicable model : This opens the door for other universities and municipalities to adopt similar prevention and community wellness schemes throughout the state.



The UABCS has demonstrated a comprehensive approach to the complex and sensitive issue of addiction, promoting not only prevention but also emotional health, peace, and community development. This event not only offers a direct benefit to youth but also strengthens community development in Baja California Sur.
