This Tuesday, the First National Drill 2025 was carried out , with historic participation in Baja California Sur : more than 53,000 people evacuated in an orderly manner 608 buildings distributed throughout the five municipalities.
The exercise was based on a hypothetical scenario of an 8.1 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Puebla, and its purpose was to strengthen action protocols and a culture of prevention in public offices, schools, hospitals, and businesses.
In La Paz, Los Cabos, and Comondú, Civil Protection personnel monitored evacuations and conducted response time assessments.
The State Civil Protection Coordination recognized citizen participation and emphasized the importance of conducting these types of exercises regularly given the seismic risks, which, while low, are not nonexistent on the peninsula.
The use of emergency backpacks and the identification of safe evacuation routes in homes were also promoted.
This simulation was conducted simultaneously throughout the country and will be complemented by internal evaluations to identify areas for improvement in each municipality.
