In an effort to ensure the conservation of marine resources and the sustainability of fishing communities, the Baja California Sur government launched a new phase of its responsible fishing and aquaculture program.

The project includes training more than 300 fishermen in sustainable fishing techniques, creating voluntary fishing refuge areas, and strengthening traceability systems that verify the legality and sustainable origin of products such as clams, lobster , and abalone .

The strategy also includes financial support for vessel renovations, eco-friendly engines, and safety equipment, seeking to improve productivity without harming ecosystems.

Specialists from the National Fisheries Institute (INAPESCA) and the Northwest Biological Research Center (CIBNOR) are collaborating on biological monitoring that will allow them to assess the status of the species and propose adjustments to fishing seasons.

Fishing and aquaculture represent a vital source of income for more than 20 thousand families in Baja California Sur, mainly in the municipalities of Mulegé , Comondú and Loreto .

The state government emphasized that implementing responsible fishing practices not only protects the environment but also strengthens the competitiveness of South California products in national and international markets.
