The plan responds to the increase in tourist influx during the summer season, which brings with it both economic benefits and public safety challenges.

Loreto, BCS – The Municipal Public Safety Directorate of Loreto launched a special surveillance operation this Monday, August 11 , in the city's main tourist areas, with the goal of preventing crime, improving the perception of security, and providing immediate attention to visitors and residents .
The plan responds to the increase in tourist influx during the summer season, which brings with it both economic benefits and public safety challenges.
Strategic presence
The operation includes:
Foot and motorcycle patrols on the boardwalk, public squares, and commercial areas.
Security filters at strategic entrances and exits.
Coordination with the State Preventive Police and the National Guard .
Rapid response units to respond to emergencies in less than 5 minutes.
In addition, security personnel have received training in tourist assistance to provide guidance and support in several languages, especially English, in response to the growing number of international visitors.
Why it is relevant
Loreto has experienced an upswing in tourist arrivals in recent years, driven by its natural beauty, sport fishing, and its recognition as a Magical Town. However, this influx also increases the need to prevent minor crimes such as theft, fraud, and public disturbances .
Municipal authorities point out that the strategy seeks to strengthen the confidence of those who visit the destination and the local community itself, ensuring that tourism development goes hand in hand with safe environments.
Community Reviews
Merchants in the boardwalk area have expressed that the increased police presence deters misconduct and helps maintain a family-friendly atmosphere. Tourism operators, for their part, have requested that these measures be maintained year-round, not just during peak seasons.
Security and economy, hand in hand
Local development experts emphasize that a positive perception of security has a direct impact on the economy: tourists who feel safe tend to stay longer, shop more, and recommend the destination.
In a context where Baja California Sur competes with other destinations in the country and abroad, offering a safe tourism experience is key to maintaining the sector's growth.
"Safety is not only measured by the absence of crime, but also by the confidence people have in walking the streets, enjoying our beaches, and experiencing Loreto," said the Director of Municipal Public Safety.
The operation will remain active throughout the summer season, and its effectiveness will be evaluated based on citizen reports and official statistics.
