In an announcement that has raised eyebrows and expectations, Keller W Metropolitan (KW) posted on its verified MercadoLibre account the sale of Isla Cerralvo—officially known as Isla Jacques Cousteau—for $115 million. With a stated area of 113,000,000 m² (equivalent to 113,000 hectares), this uninhabited land in the Gulf of California offers crystalline waters and marine biodiversity that UNESCO inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2005.

The listing highlights that the property combines ecological richness with tourist potential, showcasing ideal settings for diving and sport fishing. However, given its inclusion on the List of World Heritage in Danger since 2019—due to threats such as illegal fishing and the endangered vaquita marina—the post has drawn criticism from environmentalists and concerned citizens over the apparent possibility of a protected area being subject to market forces.

So far, federal authorities have not issued an official stance on the legality of this transaction, fueling controversy over the state’s responsibility to safeguard its natural heritage. The sale remains active and can be viewed on MercadoLibre.
