La Paz, BCS – The Autonomous University of Baja California Sur ( UABCS ) has highlighted the urgent need to update the Risk Atlas of several municipalities in the state, as the current document does not reflect the current conditions and threats faced by the communities.
UABCS specialists have identified that urban growth, climate change, and other factors have significantly altered the risk landscape in the region, making a review and update of the Atlas essential for proper disaster planning and prevention.
The university proposes collaboration between academic institutions, government authorities, and civil society to carry out this update process, using advanced technological tools and updated data to identify vulnerable areas and design mitigation strategies.
Updating the Risk Atlas is essential to ensuring the safety of the population and the protection of natural resources, and authorities are expected to take this recommendation into account to strengthen community resilience to potential natural disasters.
