La Paz, BCS – August 7, 2025. Although it will not make landfall in Baja California Sur, Tropical Storm Ivo , located in the eastern Pacific, has begun to generate indirect effects in different areas of the state , particularly in the municipality of La Paz and coastal areas of the south. According to information from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) , isolated showers, moderate winds and high waves are expected during the next 48 hours , especially on the Pacific coast.

Ivo's path remains away from the coast of Southern California; however, its influence on the local weather system is beginning to be felt in the form of scattered clouds, increased humidity, and rough seas in areas such as El Pescadero, Todos Santos, La Ventana, and the coastal corridor toward Los Cabos .

Where will the effects be felt?

The current forecast indicates that the effects will be slight but noticeable , especially between the night of Thursday 7 and Saturday 9 August:

  • Isolated showers and downpours in areas such as La Paz, Los Planes, El Centenario, and El Triunfo.

  • Waves of up to 2 meters on the coasts of the South Pacific, mainly in the area of open beaches.

  • Wind with moderate gusts , especially in exposed coastal areas.

The State Civil Protection Coordination and municipal authorities have issued preventive recommendations, but no major alerts have been issued so far. Citizens have been asked to avoid entering the sea during high waves, especially coastal fishermen, surfers, and visitors to unsupervised beaches.

Why is it important to be alert?

While Ivo does not pose a major risk to state infrastructure, it could cause hazardous localized conditions , particularly in:

  • Open beaches without lifeguards or signs.

  • Rural roads , where wet pavement can cause skidding.

  • Urban areas with poor drainage , susceptible to puddles or brief flooding.

Furthermore, the cyclone season is still in an active stage , so phenomena like Ivo, although indirect, should be taken into account as a reminder to stay informed and prepared .

Official information and monitoring

Authorities have encouraged the public to stay informed of daily reports from the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Conagua (Conagua), and Civil Protection, and to avoid spreading rumors or unconfirmed news. A climate emergency hotline has been set up in each municipality, and the state Civil Protection portal offers real-time updates.

Additionally, extreme caution is urged for recreational activities on the open sea , excursions to mountainous areas, and outdoor events scheduled for this weekend, as the weather could change suddenly.

Tropical Storm Ivo does not pose a direct threat to Baja California Sur , but it does require careful attention. The nature of the climate in our region requires early and careful action, especially during hurricane season.
