Trajectory and evolution

  • Formation and Intensification: Flossie became a Category 1 hurricane on the night of Monday, June 30, with sustained winds of 100 km/h ( 62 mph ) and gusts of up to 120 km/h (75 mph) . It is expected to strengthen to a Category 2 hurricane on Wednesday, July 2.

  • General direction and trajectory The storm is moving northwest at about 17 km/h , skirting the Mexican Pacific coast—mainly Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco—without touching land, and continues its parallel course off the Peninsula.

  • Influence on Baja California Sur It is forecast that by Friday, July 4 , Flossie will be located off the western coast of Baja California Sur, already weakened to a tropical storm , but still with clouds and heavy rains.

  • Rainfall Heavy to very heavy rains are expected (unspecified amount, but with potential for local thunderstorms) caused by the cloud bands of the system

  • Waves and wind High waves are expected on the coasts, with strong winds , although the center of the hurricane will remain over the sea.

  • Weakening upon arrival The passage through cooler waters and the shear environment will cause the system to gradually weaken once it reaches the region
