Baja California Sur. The National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) has updated and strengthened its protocol for addressing large whale entanglements in the waters of Baja California Sur , with the goal of protecting these species and ensuring their well-being during the whale-watching season.

This protocol establishes the bases and procedures for handling entanglement events, in coordination with the Entangled Whale Assistance Network (RABEN).

The protocol includes training of specialized personnel, the implementation of appropriate tools and techniques for disentanglement, and collaboration with tourism service providers and the community at large.

Since its implementation, RABEN has successfully released more than 97 entangled whales, following the recommendations of the International Whaling Commission (IWC).

CONANP calls on citizens and tourism service providers to report any sightings of entangled whales and collaborate in their protection .
