Environmentalists have issued an urgent alert about the deterioration of the mangroves in El Mogote , one of the most emblematic areas of La Paz .

According to a recent report by the Biodiversity Research Center , more than 15% of the mangrove area has shown signs of degradation in the last three years, due to urban growth, unregulated tourism, and dredging activities.

Mangroves are vital for protecting the coast, providing refuge for numerous species, and capturing carbon.

Local authorities say they are working on a management plan, but experts warn that current actions are insufficient.

In an interview with BajaSur360 , biologist Mariana García explained: "The mangrove is not just a beautiful landscape; it is a natural barrier against hurricanes and a biodiversity sanctuary . "

Civil organizations are promoting awareness campaigns and seeking international support to finance restoration projects.

Local fishermen have also spoken out, concerned about the impact on their activities. The challenge will be to balance economic development and conservation before the damage becomes irreversible.
