The initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to boost the local economy, promote sports tourism, and foster sustainable practices in recreational fishing.
On May 15, the Baja California Sur Tourism and Economy Secretariat presented the long-awaited sport fishing tournament calendar for 2025, with a program that spans from La Paz to Los Cabos and Loreto .
The initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to boost the local economy, promote sports tourism, and foster sustainable practices in recreational fishing.
The schedule, which was launched at a press conference in the port of Pichilingue , includes monthly tournaments that will attract both professional fishermen and sports enthusiasts from all over Mexico and even abroad.
"These tournaments not only generate economic benefits for our ports and local businesses; they also reinforce Baja California Sur's image as a high-quality destination for sports tourism ," stated the head of the Secretariat during the event.
Among the main attractions are native species fishing competitions, responsible fishing clinics, and complementary activities such as seafood festivals, photography contests, and talks on marine conservation.
The organizers have indicated that all events will feature environmental experts who will address the importance of preserving marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable fishing practices.
Investment in tourism infrastructure for these events is also significant. Resources have been allocated to modernize ports, improve access to fishing areas, and ensure the safety and comfort of participants.
In addition, collaboration between the private sector and the government is being promoted to offer tourism packages that include sports activities, cultural visits, and stays in sustainability-certified accommodations.
The impact of these tournaments goes beyond the sporting activity. It is estimated that these events could generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, involving guides, tour operators, artisans, and local suppliers.
Likewise, the increased demand for associated services will boost trade and promote the development of new businesses in the region.
Sport fishing tournaments in BCS have become a symbol of the fusion of sport, tourism, and environmental responsibility.
With careful planning and a diverse offering, authorities are confident that 2025 will be a year remembered for the robust growth of the sector and for strengthening Baja California Sur 's international image as a prime destination for active and sustainable tourism.
